Day 1- doing it anyways

The title says it all.

I fiddled and googled and was ultimately unsuccessful in linking up to the official 31 days linky.
This will not stop me from completing my goal of a post a day in 31 days of sewing!

So today's post is fittingly about the very first step in sewig a project, preparation on materials.
My younger sister (13) wants to be Wendy from Peter Pan, she asked me to do it, of course insaid yes. Off to fabric land we went, last weekend, and today I washed and dried the fabric and his evening I am ironing the worst of the wrinkles out of 3(!) yards of knit.

Then opening the pattern (I bought a paper one, why did I do that instead of a PDF?) and reading the instructions.

This already seems harder than a quilt block...

31 Days of Sew A Little Every Day

I am going to write a post on the theme of sewing a little everyday. I will succeed... I hope!

Hopefully my complete lack of knowledge of all things blog and tech related won't get in the way to much.

At the very least I will learn a bunch and have a little fun doing it.

So many things to say! We will start with the wallet :)

completed a wallet! My first one for my moms birthday. The best part about sewing for your mommy is that she will love it with all of its imperfections :)
This is the tutorial I used, with a few alterations... http://mel-allwrappedup.blogspot.ca/2010/11/patchwork-y-bifold-wallet.html?m=1

Love these fabrics :) got them from Sew Sisters online store.

I'll be sharing my new endeavour soon :)

I also got given a second machine today!
Haven't tried It but hoping it sews. Came with all the feet and accessories.... Here's to hoping!

I want to make a bag!

It has become an obsession and it will require a new Pinterest board for all the bag tutorials, patterns, and reviews I am amassing.

I'll share them soon, when I've narrowed it down a little...

Also wallets... Must sew a wallet or two.... Or 6... Lol

Well the next thing on my ever growing list of things to buy is interfacing. Several weights I think.

Pants for my little guy!

This is the second pair of these pants I've made using the monkey pants pattern by Terra's Treasures on etsy.

Pretty happy with how these turned out!
Had to guesstimate the waist band and leg cuffs... Learning curve but worth it in the end :) making some with adorable cranky cloud fabric in a vivid lime colour. That will be fun for sure!

Much faster than quilt pieces...

Better get started on my pic cushion to swap...

This was written a week or so ago... I didn't realize this hadn't been published.... Oops! Here is my son in them!

Got a shout out on hip to be a square podcast!

Super excited to have been mentioned as commenter on the hip to be square podcast!

It's a bit geeky but I love podcasts and Pam over at hip to be a square is a riot(so are her cats)!

I should put together a list of the quilty podcasts I listen to and maybe a couple others I love....

An ugly project

Isn't it strange that we will spend hours working on something we don't even like?
Of course this really means I am spending hours working on something I don't love the colors of. I do like the use black as the neutral. The colors used in it were fabrics I had and I did a sampler of random blocks mostly to learn a whole bunch in a short time.

Which of course I did.
I think that I need to sew slower and that sewing with pre cut quarter square triangles is a little bit ambitios for me right now.
Also I'm sure that repetition of a single block would lead to a better product in the case of the trickier ones :)

Some blocks turned out good and some...well my sister will love it anyways. It's just her thing, loud and bright. Thank goodness for 13 yr old girls :)

I have to add borders to the smaller blocks. Yes smaller, when I had the best block I'd done so far turn out 2 inches smaller than the others I just made 2 more the same size thinking I could work it in. Nope! So adding borders and then sashing... And then off we go!

*I have got to stop not publishing posts when I write them... Though this is in the same stage :)
